Privacy policy

1. Who we are

Tarjiha (“we”, “us”, “our”) operates the Tarjiha mobile application and the tarjiha.com website — a mosque management system and masjid community app. For privacy enquiries, email privacy@tarjiha.com.

2. Data we collect

We collect only what is necessary to provide and improve the Service:

  • Account information: Name, email address, preferred language and authentication credentials when you create an account.
  • Mosque membership: Which mosques you follow or manage, your role within a mosque committee, and preferences for prayer notifications.
  • Location data: Used only for location-aware adhan notifications (geo-fence at 10 km), finding nearby mosques, and the qibla compass. Location is processed on-device where possible and is never sold or shared with advertisers.
  • Content you create: Questions submitted to scholars, event details, announcements and mosque profile information.
  • Usage and device data: App version, device model, operating system, crash logs and anonymised usage analytics to help us fix bugs and improve performance.
  • Payment data: Processed entirely by our PCI-compliant payment partner. We receive only a transaction reference and billing email — card numbers never touch our servers.

3. How we use your data

  • Provide and personalise the Service (prayer times, notifications, Q&A).
  • Process subscriptions and payments.
  • Send transactional emails (receipts, password resets, security alerts).
  • Deliver push notifications you have opted into (adhan, iqamah, announcements).
  • Generate anonymised, aggregated insights for mosque committees (member growth, push delivery rates).
  • Detect and prevent fraud, abuse and security threats.
  • Improve reliability, fix bugs and develop new features.

We do not sell personal data, serve advertisements, or share identifiable data with third parties for their marketing purposes.

4. Third-party processors

We use a limited number of trusted sub-processors to operate the Service:

  • Hosting & database: Cloud infrastructure hosted in secure, SOC 2-certified data centres.
  • Payments: PCI DSS Level 1-compliant payment processor for subscription billing.
  • Push notifications: Apple Push Notification Service (APNs) and Firebase Cloud Messaging (FCM).
  • Analytics: Privacy-focused, anonymised analytics — no cross-site tracking, no ad profiles.

Each processor is bound by a data processing agreement and may only use data to fulfil their service to us.

5. Data retention

We retain your data for as long as your account is active. If you delete your account, personal data is removed within 30 days, except where retention is required by law (e.g. financial records). Anonymised, aggregated analytics may be retained indefinitely.

6. Your rights

Depending on your jurisdiction, you may have the right to:

  • Access a copy of the personal data we hold about you.
  • Correct inaccurate data.
  • Delete your account and associated data.
  • Export your data in a portable format.
  • Object to or restrict certain processing.
  • Withdraw consent for optional data uses at any time.

To exercise any of these rights, email privacy@tarjiha.com. We will respond within 30 days.

7. Children's privacy

The Service is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal data from children under 13. If you believe a child under 13 has provided data to us, please contact us and we will delete it promptly.

8. Security

We implement industry-standard technical and organisational measures to protect your data, including encryption in transit (TLS), encryption at rest, access controls, and regular security reviews. No system is perfectly secure — if you discover a vulnerability, please report it to security@tarjiha.com.

9. International transfers

Data may be processed in countries other than your own. Where transfers occur, we ensure appropriate safeguards are in place (such as standard contractual clauses) to protect your data in compliance with applicable data protection laws.

10. Changes to this policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Material changes will be communicated via in-app notification or email at least 14 days before they take effect. The “Last updated” date at the top reflects the latest revision.
